Creality Print: add a pause and swap filament colors
Creality Print 6 and 7: slice, scroll Preview to where color two starts, right-click the + handle for Add Pause, and re-slice. Your printer waits there.
Good for: Creality Ender-3 V3 models, Hi, K1C, K1 Max, and K2 Plus, with no CFS. Menus match Creality Print 7.3 and 6.3 (September 2026).
Setting the pause in Creality Print
- 1
Slice it once
Hit Slice plate. You land on the Preview tab, with a tall layer slider down the right side.
- 2
Scroll up to the color change
Slide the top handle upward until you reach the lowest layer that has only the second color in it. On a name sign, that's usually where the letters start rising off the base. The slider's label gives you two numbers: the layer and its height in mm.
- 3
Drop in the pause
Right-click the handle marked + and pick Add Pause. A small marker shows up on that layer, and the printer will stop right before it begins.
- 4
Re-slice and send it
The pause makes the old slice stale, so press Slice plate one more time. Then print or export the way you normally do.
Which layer, though? The first one in the new color. Here's how to spot it.
Your printer's stop command
Creality's profiles come with it filled in. To confirm, look under Printer settings → Machine G-code → Pause G-code:
| Ender-3 V3 KE, K2 Plus, K1 Max, K1C, Hi | PAUSE |
| Ender-3 V3 SE | M25 |
When the printer stops
Load your first color and start the print. Once it reaches the pause:
- 5
The toolhead parks
The printer moves the head out of the way. A K1C also cools its nozzle to 140 °C to cut down on oozing, and that isn't hot enough to pull filament.
- 6
Heat up and swap
From the filament menu on the screen, heat the nozzle, unload the first color, and load the second. Keep purging until the color runs true.
- 7
Back to printing
Snip or pull away the purged string, hands off the print, and tap Resume.
Changed your mind? Taking the pause out
Slide back to the layer with the marker and click the × that sits next to the handle. (A right-click on the handle also offers Delete Pause.) Slice once more afterward.
Things that trip people up
- No CFS? Then Change Filament won't do anything for you. Add Pause is the one that works.
- Creality Print 5 had a bug where Slice plate sometimes stayed greyed out once a pause went in. Flipping any setting and back woke it up. Double-check that the pause sits on the layer you chose.
- Printer never stopped? Look at Printer settings → Machine G-code → Pause G-code. When that box is blank, the slicer leaves only a note in the file and the printer carries straight on.
- Don't pause in the first 2 or 3 layers. A thin print waiting that close to the bed can cool off and peel up.
Quick answers
- Do I need a CFS to print two colors on a K1C?
- No. Add a pause in Creality Print where the color switches. The K1C stops at that layer; unload and load from its screen, then resume.
