Elegoo Slicer: add a pause and swap filament colors
In Elegoo Slicer, slice, move Preview to the first new-color layer, right-click the + handle, pick Add Pause, re-slice. A Neptune 4 guides the swap.
Good for: Elegoo Centauri Carbon and Neptune 4 Max, 4 Plus, 4 Pro, and 4. Menus match Elegoo Slicer 1.5 (September 2026).
Setting the pause in Elegoo Slicer
- 1
Slice it once
Hit Slice plate. You land on the Preview tab, with a tall layer slider down the right side.
- 2
Scroll up to the color change
Slide the top handle upward until you reach the lowest layer that has only the second color in it. On a name sign, that's usually where the letters start rising off the base. The slider's label gives you two numbers: the layer and its height in mm.
- 3
Drop in the pause
Right-click the handle marked + and pick Add Pause. A small marker shows up on that layer, and the printer will stop right before it begins.
- 4
Re-slice and send it
The pause makes the old slice stale, so press Slice plate one more time. Then print or export the way you normally do.
Which layer, though? The first one in the new color. Here's how to spot it.
Your printer's stop command
Elegoo's profiles pause with a filament change command, and that needs up-to-date firmware:
| Neptune 4 and 4 Pro (needs firmware 1.1.2.28+) | M600 |
| Neptune 4 Plus and 4 Max (needs firmware 1.2.2.39+) | M600 |
| Centauri Carbon | M600 |
When the printer stops
Load your first color and start the print. Once it reaches the pause:
- 5
The printer asks for a change
After the layer underneath, it parks and prompts you to change filament.
- 6
Follow the prompts
The screen walks you through unloading the first color and loading the second. Purge until it runs clean.
- 7
Carry on
Remove the purged string (don't touch the print) and tap resume on the screen.
Changed your mind? Taking the pause out
Slide back to the layer with the marker and click the × that sits next to the handle. (A right-click on the handle also offers Delete Pause.) Slice once more afterward.
Things that trip people up
- Older Neptune 4 firmware ignores
M600. Update it before you print. - Some Centauri Carbon 2 owners say its firmware skips
M600for now. Try a short test print that pauses a few layers up before trusting it with a real one. - Can't click Add Pause? The print sequence is probably set to By object. Change it to By layer under the process settings and the option comes back.
- Don't pause in the first 2 or 3 layers. A thin print waiting that close to the bed can cool off and peel up.
Quick answers
- My Neptune 4 Pro ignored the pause. How do I fix it?
- Check the firmware first: you need 1.1.2.28 or newer. Then open Elegoo Slicer (OrcaSlicer works too), go to the first new-color layer, and pick Add Pause from the slider handle's right-click menu. Its profile sends M600 there, and the screen talks you through the change.
